FOR ANY CONCRETE STRUCTURE UNDER CONSTRUCTION
This is a THIRD PARTY QUALITY ASSESSMENT SYSTEM and a scientific method of evaluating the quality of concrete structures by identifying the flaws that are required to be corrected in order to ensure durability of the structures under construction.
WHY DO WE NEED THIS Quality Control MECHANISM?
The primary reason for this initiative is to ensure DURABILITY of the structures thereby offering a very long service life in accordance with the design offered by the structural consultant.Over the last 23 years that we have been offering Concrete Rehabilitation Services, it is becoming increasingly difficult to dispose off the huge amount of old broken concrete generated during the concrete repairs. If we design and construct buildings that can ensure Durability of the structure we would:
It would also mean we do not use the chemicals – polymers, epoxies etc – that would be later required to repair the structure.
HOW DO WE DO THIS?
This is mainly achieved by way of Non Destructive Testing of concrete structure at different stages of construction by checking and testing for:
These tests would eliminate the two most common factors that have been causing corrosion of concrete in Goa.
Cover Survey: Achieving the specified cover is of paramount importance if the building owner is going to achieve the planned design life and economic return from his building. Did you know that “If a building with a 50 year design life has a minimum cover of 20 mm, a cover reduction of only 2 mm reduces the expected life by 10 years? In an extreme case reducing the cover to 10 mm reduces the life from 50 years to 12 years.”
So, cover thickness remains one of the most important durability parameters. An appropriate remedy is to check the cover by NDT after construction and where cover is found to be inadequate to provide a prescribed treatment that would effectively provide all the protective functions of Cover.
